New Mexico’s hidden places to discover
Written by danyricher
We were heading New Mexico to go to White Sands National Park (which was on our bucket list) and decided to stop in a beautiful Harvest Hosts called Balzano Vineyard. The family established in New Mexico in 1912. Few generations later, in 2008 the Balzano’s purchased the Seven Rivers property and began planting the vineyard on the 150 acre property. Today there is a winery, a small farm, the Pumpkin Patch and a beautiful reception hall.

You’re always family!
The first thing you will notice, you will feel like you are being part of the family. They will tell you the story of the family, story about the winery etc. From events to wine tasting, to the small shop with carefully chosen products, small farm animals, there’s something for everyone!
As part of Harvest Hosts, you can reserve online to book your stay and enjoy all this beautiful site with a good glass of wine. At the same time, why not take the opportunity to have dinner on site or buy wine for your next dinner this weekend?
By the way, I am a huge lemonade fan, and their home made lemonade is delightful! Your kids will enjoy it too!
A well keep family secret… Ask them to explain the story behind the image of this bottle of Shiraz…

Ruidoso, the Alpine Village seduced us
Chill Out by Simple Sugars OMG!!!
Even at mid-April, temperature was gorgeous and feeling like summer for us! A refreshment was in order! We decided to go and try the ice cream parlour on the “Main Street” called Sudderth Dr. This place was paradise for all of us!
Over 10 different flavors of Frozen Yogurt and frozen Greek Yogurt. About 40 different toppings OMG!!! We were literally having a sugar rush! From real vanilla taste to Birthday Cake, Chocolate, Cookie Dough, Water Melon, Pink Lemonade etc. Which one do you think I choosed? Pink Lemonade of course! If you love frozen desert, this place needs to be on your bucket list!
If you want more information on Chill Out by Simple Sugars, go watch our stories on our Instagram Account under New Mexico!
Ruidoso was feeling like home for us. Nice village with population of 8 000 souls, with lots of shops, colorful, Spring Blooming Trees, in the mountains just like Saint-Sauveur or Mont Tremblant in Quebec, Canada.
As per a study published by Home Snacks, Ruidoso is ranked third out of the top 10 places to live in New Mexico in 2019.
We were immediately seduced by this Alpine Village. Yes you can go skiing at Ski Apache for about 3 months, from mid-December to mid-March, because the resorts are relatively high in elevation. Did you know the Sierra Blanca mountains’ top elevation is 11,500 ft? Ski Apache, is the southernmost major ski resort in the continental United States.

We learned with the employee on site, this cave originally known as “Ice Cave” in the late 1800s and early 1900s was once used as a hideout by William H. Booney, better known as Billy the Kid.
When you are driving your RV and you go to a new area, usually you are trying to see everyhing on the road. But to see giant hands on the side of the road with shark theeth, dinausaures and aliens in the back becomes intriguing. So we decided to stop. We are still near the area where the Roswell Incident happened.
We were really impressed with this cave. The cave was originally owned by a Mr Fox who after few years sold it to the current owner who decided to literally double the size of the store where you can now find lots of minerals, geodes, decorations, Native American Jewelry, salt lamps etc.
Titanic Celebrity Room
You can also visit other buildings on site with a little Billy The Kid Museum and another well-known personalities including one from the movie Titanic among others. Some of the pieces exhibited there belonged to Mrs. Rose DeWitt Bukater who was a personal friend of Mr. Fox.
Ruidoso, you will see us soon! No doubt about it!
